Outpatient & Intensive Outpatient Programs

South Oaks Hospital offers two treatment options within the Chemical Dependency and Substance Abuse Program: Outpatient Program and Intensive Outpatient Program.

The Outpatient Program at South Oaks provides treatments for addictive disorders to patients who are able to live within the community. Flexible day and evening treatments are available six days a week.

For patients who require a higher level of care, an Intensive Outpatient Program is available daytime and evening hours. Intensive and flexible recovery treatments can be provided in 3-hour sessions, three to five days a week, with a primary counselor assigned to each patient.

Admission into the Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient programs at South Oaks begin with a comprehensive assessment, including psychiatric and psychosocial components. An individualized treatment plan and recovery goals will be developed based upon each patient’s unique needs, situation and assessment.

Impaired Driver Program
The Impaired Driver Program provided by South Oaks Hospital’s Outpatient Services includes: Comprehensive tracking and reporting database, customized for requirements of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV),  Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and the New York State Drinking Driver Program (DDP).

  • It is a reporting mechanism
  • To inquire about the driver
  • As a data entry system for users to create records and to view a motorist’s Abstract of Driving Record (Driver’s Abstract)

The functions of this system:

  • Electronically submit information to DMV about the driver
  • View client history with DDP, screening, assessment and treatment

Assessments, referrals, program completion or non completion will be transmitted to the DMV electronically for utilization in triggering the necessary changes in a motorist’s conditional license or relicensing eligibility status.
Please note: If a motorist is required to be in treatment for licensing, they must attend an accredited OASAS facility. South Oaks Hospital meets all criteria and is an accredited facility.

Significant Others Program

In addition, South Oaks outpatient program offers treatment to family and significant persons who may be affected by substance use by family member(s) or friend(s). We recognize that addiction has far-reaching effects beyond the substance user, and that the family member/significant other may greatly benefit from clinical help with coping skills, education and support.
